Oh Snow Gods...
Why hads't thou forsaken the East?
And denied us our annual powder feast?
Please turn the heat low,
To change rain into snow,
And give us a few inches at least...
What a strange winter. I have never seen so much rain come down during the "coldest" months of the year. The Eastern U.S. and Canada (more in the U.S.) experienced a serious thaw in 2006 that started around New Years and lasted the better part of two months. As you might imagine, that made things pretty challenging for the Meatheads.
But have no fear! We welcome a good challenge, and redoubled our efforts despite the mild temps. Athletes and filmers were slaving around the clock, just to get that last pow shot or clean the final handrail.
"I was working 16 hour days, with no sleep or food, and a strict ration of only 8 oz. of water. I was failing out of college for the movie and Geoff still made me grease this 6 kink, like, 20 times before he got the shot.'," said Meathead jib specialist, Will Wesson in January.
"Doing the pow shots took some serious special effects work this year," complained veteran Meat Boy, Joe Morabito. "It took at least 5 people to make it happen. A filmer, a skier, and 3 people hiding in the woods chucking buckets of snow at the skier as he came down."
Here is photo synopsis of our struggles, our glories, our trials and tribulations, our personal battles with the Snow Gods in the winter of 2006:
