Vacationland
And what a vacation it was... filled with long days and usually longer nights, our block of Maine tour stops were some of the best yet. We were on the road for five days starting with Orono up north, and ending in Portland down south. Highlights included monstrous whoopee pies, the Old Port, long walks on Popham Beach, Shipyard beer, the original Pat's Pizza, lobsters, and oh yeah, ski movies.

The UMaine Orono premiere was highly anticipated after last year's enthusiastic and large crowd in a sweet campus theater. This year was no different. Rowdy and loud. And it was great to see how some officers in the club executed such stellar promotions on campus (see photos). Following the premiere, the officers and I headed over to the original Pat's Pizza and killed some pie and Gritty's Ale before cruising back to the Outing Club house for a late night. Big thanks to Chris Kendal and the rest of the Maine Outing Club for hosting and promoting another successful event, and to Alpenglow Climb Shop (who runs Acadia Mountain Guides) for being an event sponsor and contributing some great prizes.

The town of Waterville and Colby College was the next stop, where Geoff met up with me from VT. Again, working through the Outing Club made for a great event and a pack of psyched ski fans came out for the night's festivities despite it being exam week. After the premiere, the OC graciously offered to buy us brews at the campus pub. Drinking legally on campus... most excellent. In the middle of a card game at the pub, OC co-president, James, lined up an interview for Geoff and me with the campus radio station to talk a bit about Snow Gods and our tour (see photos). Soon after, we cruised to a dorm suite for some more late night action, then off to a plush lake house with a bonfire, and finally hit the sheets around 4am. Huge thanks to co-presidents Miriam and James for all their hard work and hospitality.

Colby was followed by our screening at Bowdoin College in Brunswick the next day. Brunswick is the rival high school for my hometown of Bath, which is ten minutes away... but I've put all that behind me now. Morse High Shipbuilders rule! Anyhow, the Bowdoin Outing Club lined up the premiere in their recently built leadership center which had a great intimate atmosphere. We gave out some sweet prizes and the crowd was super psyched on the movie. I'm sure it had nothing to do with a couple of my fellow, and quite vocal, high school friends in attendance. A good crew of us then closed out the night with some Maine brews at the local bar, Joshua's Tavern. Thanks to Luke and the rest of the Bowdoin OC for hosting our film again.

The finale of our back-to-back-to-back-to-back Maine tour was in Portland at Rivalries Pub. This place was off the hook. We premiered on the second floor and had a great turnout of ski movie & beer lovin fans that won some great prizes including a pair of HEAD skis. There was even a push up contest for one of the raffle prizes, which went several rounds. And we were stoked to see Portland local, Cade Beaulieu on hand with some bros.... he is the sole artist behind the Snow Gods DVD art and the man who created the Meathead logo. He can also claim credit for all of the designs on our new Ski The East clothing. What a sexy, talented Mainer. Also, the Sunday River crew was out in full force, as well as Ruffus and his posse, who makes an appearance in the Killington segment of Snow Gods. After the raffle was wrapped up, Rivalries Bar was followed by another bar, and then a house party, and then one last undisclosed late-night spot. Somehow we ended up with several two dollar bills in our wallets in the morning....
