Background: After the enormous success of the 2006 Heat Harvest Superpark at Sunday River, the resort was more than happy to host the event again for 2007. Meathead Films came up with the idea to have a private superpark style shoot with the strongest freeskiers in the East back in 2006 and Sunday River welcomed the challenge. So in mid April it was once again time to harvest the snow from White Heat and film some aerial madness.
April 9: Check into the Brookside Condos and hit the sheets, exhausted after a 40+ hour odyssey back from Newfoundland.
April 10: Up at 9:00 and head over to Barker Lodge to get tickets for the crew. It’s a practice/ warm up day. Session the Rocking Chair park. Highlights include high-speed butters, lazy 180’s, and destruction of Sunday River’s famous C-Box. After skiing we eat some grub and take a hike up White Heat to help direct the finishing touches on the massive features. The groomers have been working hard with aid from Red Bull and pizza and everyone helps conceptualize the final layout: triple takeoff tabletop - a hip on the left side, money booter in the center, and a poppy hit to the right. Party hearty at Brookside Condos until 1 a.m.
April 11: Bluebird and warm. Bigger crew than last year and everyone is psyched! After some quick briefing on the event and waiver signing with Heat Harvest director, Alex Kaufman, it’s up the Starburst lift to the top of the park. Damn! The groomers did an amazing job this year! The table and hip were looking prime so the crew began warming up – some with spread eagles, others with switch rodeos. By 11:30 or so real stuff was beginning to happen. Giray and Ahmet Dadali, Ross Imburgia, Dan Kiesel, Parker White, Chris Logan and Nick Martini were the standouts. Then came lunch – burgers and dogs on the grill. Ahmet slipped on his “Bringing Sexy Back” tube top and it was time for everyone to step it up for the afternoon. Highlights include – Erik Olson and Shea Flynn’s smooth 5’s, Chris Logan’s massive switch misty 9’s, Nick Martini’s switch 10 true nose and both Ross and Ahmet managed to get around some switch 12’s. Most of the snowboarders weren’t feeling the jump but one of the groomers was throwing huge rodeo 9’s. With time and sunlight running out we only got about 45 minutes to session the hip. Erik and Shea scored some nice shots. Off to dinner and some more partying…
April 12: Weather forecast says clouds and a major snow system moving in. Geoff is up early and helping set up a rail-gap-landing before the athletes can hit the hill at 10 a.m. Everyone rushes up the chairlift to try to get some shots before the snow rolls in. Giray throws some nice switch tricks and Lil’ John Strenio sticks a switch right 7. Lunch is in the middle of a blizzard and we all need to cram into a little café to get out of it. The afternoon is spent hitting the rail-gap-landing and Nick, Shea, and Chris Logan all land some nice 450’s off. Giray steps it up to 630 and then an unprecedented 810 off! By this time it’s snowing so hard we decide to call it a day.
April 12 – Night: With the heavy snow, Alex Kaufman sets up a night shoot at the now closed-down tubing park. Shea, Lil’ John, and Nick score some nice shots on the various features: rainbow gap rail, pole bonk, and ghetto booter into pow.
April 13: With the superpark features mowed down during the night (to open White Heat back up to the public because of the snow) the Meatheads shredded powder all day. Erik and Will got some nice mini-cliff drops and tree skiing shots and everyone was stoked to have skied three very different days during Heat Harvest numero dos!
A huge thanks to Sunday River, Communications Director Alex Kaufman, Park Manager Nick Roma, and the rest of the groomers and athletes who made the event possible and a great success.

First! NS style...ha.
The park crew deserves all the credit for setting up that night park on short notice in a raging blizzard. Thing was ill. Go Meat!
